These are general descriptions to give you an idea of what each committee coordinator's responsibilities are. For a more specific description, please contact us, or refer to the PTA Guide book. We would love to answer any questions you may have about any of these great committees!
President:
Preside over meetings, oversee basic function of the board and committees.
Vice President:
Assist the President, Preside over meetings when the President is unable, Coordinate all fundraisers.
Secretary: (Great starter position)
Record minutes at every official meeting and present them at the following meeting for review, organize PTA file cabinet and mailboxes.
Treasurer:
Hold a budget meeting to decide on what the PTA will fund the following year, oversee the budget and dispersement of money for budgetted items. Deposit any funds raised into the PTA bank account, balance checking account, present an updated treasurer's report at each meeting. pay bills such as storage, membership dues, insurance, etc., file taxes.
Membership:
Run a membership campaign to recrute members, disperse official membership cards and thank you's, report membership status at Board meetings.
Hospitality: (Great starter position)
Provide refreshments and decorations for PTA events (example: Tea and Tissues), Create a snack roster for board meetings.
Volunteers: (Great starter position)
Create a Volunteer Roster from returned volunteer check lists and distribute to each committee coordinator, Call and welcome volunteers at the beginning of the year, Organize and plan the end of year dinner.
Family Nights:
With Volunteers, plan and organize Family Night events, such as movie nights, and Bingo. (usually Monthly)
Staff Appreciation:
With Volunteers, organize and plan Staff Appreciation Week including: luncheons, gifts, etc.
Box Tops / Soup labels: (Great starter position)
With Volunteers coordinate a box top / soup label drive to raise money for the school.
Create a chart so each class can keep track of their progress and organize parties for the winning classes.
Popcorn:
Create a schedule of volunteers to pop and sell popcorn and licorice each Friday. Coordinate the purchase of supplies.
Discover the Arts:
Using Volunteers, coordinate after school art classes for the kids. Volunteers can be through the school or community.
Teddy Bear Patrol: (Great starter position)
Coordinate a Teddy Bear drive and work with local police or fire department for a pick up of the bears.
Newsletter / Publications:
Collect information for the PTA Newsletter. Create flyers for PTA events. Have any publications printed and distributed into the teacher's boxes for delivery.
School Banking:
Organize a schedule of volunteers to oversee collection days where the kids can bring money to school to deposit in their own Washington Mutual savings accounts.
PTA Website:
Update and maintain our PTA website to include all upcoming events and information.
Carnival:
Plan and order all carnival boothes, events, food, and prizes. Organize volunteers to work shifts at the carnival. Oversee the set up and take down on carnival night.
Silent Auction:
With volunteers, start collecting donations from the community as soon as possible. Hold a donation drive at the school with each class having a basket theme. Create the auction catalog, put the baskets together and coordiate the auction itself. Present winning classes with a prize.
5th Grade Graduation:
Order and pick up cakes and punch for the event. Organize Volunteers to help serve the refreshments.
Monster Mash:
Organize volunteers and activities for the Monster Mash dance.
Turkey Bingo:
collect donations from the community for Bingo Prizes such as games, gifts and complete turkey dinners. Organize volunteers.
